So why is it that my dad calls me in the afternoon talking about dinner at the carnivore with his business partners? ‘Please clear your hectic schedule Liz!' he mentions over and over again.
Of course when I am sitting in 1 Hamp Ct in Upperhill in my little cocoon, I can't be bothered, I thought to myself! But I just had to allow myself to be bothered by family because it is a sweet thing! I love to spend time with my dad and ma but somehow it just does not feel like enough time is spent there. So yes, it was my pleasure to be a part of this dinner.
About 6:00pm, I got into my wardrobe pulling out and trying on one dress after the other, I had to stop for a H20 break! It felt more like a work out just trying to find that perfect dress. Since dad and ma were involved, it had to be very decent, ‘Not too short! ‘Sleeves on please!' ‘No open back!' ‘We don't want to see your skinny bones sticking out around your neck and chest and arms and on and on type of vibe!'
Mmh, so I finally decided to put checklist of what I can get away with at the dinner and what I just can't get away with. Dress? No, I wanted a certain length but it was not fitting into the dinner set-up. Blue Jeans? No, blue jeans seemed too blue jeans! Shorts? No! No! No! Imani-Zui pants, which is similar to the popular ‘Aladdin' pants? Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes for the Imani-Zui jumpsuit because they were relaxed fit, not clinging on my body, not tight on my ‘African heritage', just fitting loose enough and cuffing back at the end of my long legs, hence exuding some sort of classic edge. The top part of the jumpsuit had a stretch-elastic-threaded 6 "-sequined bustier and just set the jumpsuit on fire.
So I was finally done till I was done, I put on my pink feather earrings and little pink clutch. Then threw on my Christian Loubitin 4" peep-toe stilettos and was on my way to a red carpet dinner that did not really exist. My sister picked me up and we drove to the Carnivore at about 7:00pm just to realize that we were early, or they were late. Of course when we walked in, everything seemed to shut down as people were staring again. I wonder if these people who spend so much time staring know how it feels. I actually wonder more how they would react if it was in the reverse.
Anyway after about an hour, my dad walked in with mama and the German business partners and friends of the family. We said hello, dined and wined until we were done.
As the evening progressed, I kind of felt like my zui jumpsuit was really like a wasted effort, but when we got up to leave, my dad just burst out into laughter and tears. He could not understand why the fly of my pants was so long and loose.... So he just laughed for days. I tried to tell him that it was ‘kul' and in-style but to no avail.
Anyway, one thing I can say right now is that the Imani-zui pants, which is also referred to as ‘Aladdin' pants are NOT FOR EVERYONE! Just like cheese is not for everyone, minis are not for everybody type etc. So please ladies, let us not be in denial for our own good as I still remember the lost look on my man's face when he saw me in that jumpsuit. So now I think I will re-adjust the fly or just keep them as a sample or for someone a bit fleshier. In the meantime, I have designed higher fly zui pants so that there is variety that can flatter different body types other than just one body-type. Tell you the truth, I now feel like the Imani-zui jumpsuit is an every-woman must have since I came up with different styles for different body types. If you have a tall-slender frame, I would recommend that you get one with a higher fly and avoid the stretch fabrics as it only makes you look skinnier in a ‘not-kill' way! Linen, cotton etc would be a better option even if you want to wear the fly longer as it does not caress and follow your body as much as stretch material would. If you are a size 8-12 US, I would recommend the stretch fabric which will look better, and the fly can hang lower. These pants are not really flattering for the fuller-figured woman as they are made in a way to add extra hip and clearly, you do not need extra hip if you do not really need it.
