WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK
Media has always exposed the good and glamorous side of the modeling industry, but not much is really covered on the bad and the ugly side of the realities.
I am not writing this book to convince the client to sign up another fresh model for the new gig; nor am I sharing with the models as well as the wanabees on how many hours to spend at the gym, or how to starve to death...
This is the story of an African model , the challenges she has to deal with in this industry along with the reality; anorexia, bulimia, drugs, racism, age and size factor, respect for models and the profession and the ‘ban against size zero models’ campaign.
She shares some of her laughs and cries in the industry and how they affect her today, her spiritual approach, and the steps she takes to be the change. And 7 years later, after ‘runway,’ her heart bleeds, when she sees the wave getting bigger by the day, as the world continues to rotate on routine, the clock keeps ticking as time declines to stop and wait on the anorexics to recover, and the crack-heads to make their way to rehab, the rain hits hard when it does, and when the dry season comes around, the green land dries up no matter what.
“The Modeling industry (in African context); Who is the ideal model?” has not been written exclusively for the ‘models!’ However, she has been inspired by her life and that of the average fashion models that have and continue to do whatever they need to do, to be the change for the next generation models.
It is easier to be cynical about fashion when you are not directly involved in the fashion industry….But if you take time and read this book, you will get a better understanding of this industry and probably be the change!
